Biography
 


 

Born in England but a resident of Southern California most of his life, Tim Gregory, The Building Biographer, earned a B.A. in English from U.C.L.A. and Master’s degrees in Library Science from the University of California, Berkeley and in Public History & Historic Preservation from California State University, Dominguez Hills. 


After a career in public library management in Newport Beach and Beverly Hills, Tim established The Building Biographer in 1992. Since then, he has completed over 3,000 property histories for homeowners and leading real estate firms. Tim has also written historical significance studies for public agencies, private owners, environmental consulting firms, and real estate developers.  He is experienced in preparing applications for local landmark and/or Mills Act status.
 
Tim is also a nationally certified archivist and a registered public historian. He has worked as an archivist for such organizations as the Pasadena Museum of History, the Lanterman Historical Museum Foundation, the California State University system, and the Avery Dennison Company.

Tim was the founding chairman of Altadena Heritage and served on the Board of Directors of Pasadena Heritage as Vice-Chair for Education.  Tim is also a member of the Pasadena Museum of History’s Collections Committee and of the Board of Directors of the Altadena Historical Society as well as its Archives Committee.  

For his contributions to historic preservation in Altadena, Tim was named “Citizen of the Year” by the Altadena Chamber of Commerce and Civic Association in 1991.  In 2007, he received an award from the Pasadena/Foothills Association of Realtors for “contributing to marketing resources, providing an historical perspective, and inspiring preservation and restoration efforts.”  Tim was the recipient of the 2015 Dr. Robert Winter Award from the Blinn House Foundation for “outstanding service and leadership in architectural preservation.”

As The Building Biographer, Tim has been quoted many times in real estate articles and advertisements in the Los Angeles Times, the Pasadena Star-News, the Wall Street Journal and other newspapers and magazines. He is listed in Who’s Who in America.
